Behind the Scenes…The Callanetics Journey

Posted by:

I’m so excited this week! It’s all down to a collection of fat under my belly button!! No, I’m not crazy…I understand the process of Callanetics in action!

Let me explain. To me, one of the most exciting things about Callanetics exercises is that it’s impossible to plateau. There is a constant shifting of muscles, fat, tension and a gentle stirring throughout the body. This continues as long as you continue to workout.

My own progress is not unlike the experience of thousands of others who commit themselves to regular Callanetics.

I have seen remarkable change all over my body. I am wearing clothes two sizes smaller than I was all through high school and uni, after having two children.  For today I want to tell you about what’s going on around my stomach.

I went through the usual process that happens with Callanetics. When you first start, you tone from the legs up and the rib cage down. The result is that there is a period where everything looks great, but there is a sort of collection around the hips and the lower abs where it seems everything his migrated to! At this point some people get discouraged and feel like they’re bigger than before. If this is you, please keep going! If you are consistent for a couple of weeks at this stage you’ll suddenly see this area smooth out like the rest of the body.

The toning continues and it can feel like you’ve achieved your best possible figure, especially if you keep working at the same level. The magic happens when you then amp it up a little. All you have to do is really be mindful about where you are creating your pulses from, finding every little bit of length you can and allow your body to relax as much as possible while you’re working out. What happens next is amazing!

In the last week I have noticed that while there is a little more ‘pouch’ right under the navel, there is seemingly no fat at all from the rib cage down to the navel. Nor is there any fat through the oblique area. Even more exciting is that the skin is tightening too. This is fantastic because after two babies, I could pull the skin right out…it looked like mozzarella! Now, I can only pull it a little way and it springs right back.

I put down this sudden transformation and arrival at a new level of Callanetics tone to a few things. One is that I have released some tension from the mid back

After…consistent Callanetics.

which has allowed for better head alignment. This means that when I am doing the ab exercises I can really create a nice smooth extension from my tailbone right out of the pelvis through to the crown. It draws the abs closer to the spine and makes the work deeper.

I have also recently been mixing up the ab exercises a bit more than usual. The workout I have been doing will actually be released for next months’ challenge.

So, if you are feeling like you things are shifting around but perhaps not quite as you expected…just keep going. It’s a process that never really ends. It’s understandable that this idea could be daunting, but I see it as completely exciting because I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I’d also love to hear about those times in your own experience, when things seem to not be heading in the direction you want. Did you keep at it and end up with that sudden pull in all over? Let me know below with your comments!

Stay Peachy,

Adelaide xo

One of the exciting things about your post is the mention of better head alignment. I can’t wait until my posture straightens out more so that I can see this too. Thank you for posting your photos and sharing your experiences with the changes in your abs. It is really incredible that these gentle exercises make such remarkable changes. I don’t think anyone could guess you’ve had two children! I’m so encouraged now!

I am finding exactly this, despite my waist pulling in I have noticed everything is migrating to the thighs and lower tummy but my legs look amazing and my upper body looks great. It’s good to know that this is only temporary and it’s great to have found an exercise that makes me feel amazing and that I can see working. For the first time in forever I am finally feeling more body confident.

Adelaide, these pictures are amazing!!! I remember the first time I watched your Beach Workout. I was stunned at your body, but that little bit of lingering fat below the navel was obvious and I just thought “Well, she HAS had two children. ” Seeing YOUR body pull in so dramatically gives all of us so much motivation. Even from the perspective of someone who understands that the sculpting and alignment work of Callanetics never really stops, this was an inspirational post to find. I am so proud to be able to tell people I’m a student of TCS.

With my own body I’m watching the obliques pull in, creating these sweet concave indentations on my sides and moving towards the navel. As this is occurring there is migration from below the navel moving up so the waist measurement isn’t changing as much as one would expect. That doesn’t concern me at all. I know what lies ahead.

I’m sooooo excited to see the new video this next week. I can’t say enough about how appreciative we all are that you and Sandra work so hard for our benefit. It’s delightful to read how that process has helped you both as well.

And we’ve only just begun on this wonderful Callanetics journey together. Imagine all of us five years from now. Wow! Just WOW!

Adelaide, your body is totally amazing!! In all the time that I have known you, I have honestly thought it has gone from good to completely off the charts! The Beach Workout is inspirational (as are all of your workouts) and this article/these pictures only amp it up another notch! I’m so thrilled for you that you have had such success with Callanetics… and I am so thrilled for the rest of us that you share your passion, your skill and so much of yourself with us through TCS!
Thank you for all that you do, all that you film and all that you write to keep us motivated, challenged and well and truly inspired. Your efforts are being blessed and brought back to you more abundantly than you give them out – Like Callan, I wouldn’t doubt that you make more impact than you will probably ever know. Please, please keep it up. xx

    Hi!

Well this is great to see how our bodies changes. Actually, I can feel my body change aswell. Tough, like you wrote it feels different and for my body, I feel as if my waist gets smaller, even if my stomach feels bigger ?!?…and my thighs enourmous! But thanks to you I understand that it will only get better, And…. Callanetics is an addiction, I simply get irritated if I don’t find time to exercise.

Thank You for your support, back to work now…on the mat!

More abs, more abs, more abs exercises please!

I enjoyed reading everyone of these Adelaide! I printed them out and plan on practicing all of them. I am still working on the beginning workout. I am also learning to engage the pelvic floor while relaxing each night.

Cannot wait for your new website. You and Sandra are awesome teachers! I live in America, but if I could, I would move to the Gold Coast area. It is gorgeous!

All the best to you two lovelies!
