Here we are in the middle of another year! What better time to take stock and check into those goals you set yourself at New Years. Are you on track?
Did you go too hard too soon?
When we make a change in our lives that we want to stick, sometimes it’s easier to make little changes until you are where you want to be. If you are an
overhaul person and you can maintain a big change then good for you! If you’ve found that dropping all your old habits at once was a bit of a shock to the system, take heart.
Instead of completely changing your diet, for example, why not start with a few little swaps. Make it easy for yourself and guilt free. This doesn’t mean that you can eat more chocolate because you had one salad!
Try starting with breakfast. If you start your day off right you’ll be more likely to feel like healthy options for the rest of the day. Even if you just stick with this one change for a week or two and then introduce another improvement. It might take longer than the all or none approach but you’ll find you’ve got less resistance if the changes are gradual.
What if your goals have changed?
Life often doesn’t turn out how we plan. Every situation is different, of course, but perhaps you can adopt the attitude of one door closes so another (better) one can open. If an unexpected change in circumstances has meant you have to reassess your goals for the year, it doesn’t mean that you have failed to follow through on your original plan. It just means that you are adaptable and can roll with the punches or grab opportunities when they come your way!
Feel like you’ve lost direction?
If you’re feeling like you’ve lost direction and have let your goals go by the wayside, take a look at anything at all that you’ve done to move towards following through on your plan. You might surprise yourself and find that you have made significant progress, which should be acknowledged and celebrated! If you’re looking in the mirror and you know you just haven’t taken the action steps you should have, there’s no time like the present. Look at why you haven’t started and decide if you still want the outcome you dreamed of at the start of the year. If you answer yes then you need to make it happen! Ask for help if you need to be accountable or get some motivation.
What if you’ve already nailed it?
Well, if you’ve already achieved your goals for the year…awesome! If you are on fire, don’t stop now. Use your momentum to set yourself some new goals! You don’t have to wait for the New Year to make big, positive change in your life. Perhaps you can share your success strategies with others to help them make some ground on their own goals.
So now, in the comments below, let us know how you are going with your goals? Do you need a hand or have some wisdom to share on making it happen?
